In a recent interview, actress Rani Mukerji shared her views on household dynamics and gender roles, suggesting that wives should raise their voices when speaking to their husbands. This statement sparked a wave of criticism on social media, with many users condemning her for seeming to endorse shouting within relationships. Several online commenters questioned her perspective, expressing disagreement with her remarks.
Rani Mukerji’s Gender Roles Remark Under Scrutiny
During a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Rani emphasised the importance of gender dynamics at home. She explained that a boy’s behaviour is influenced by how his father treats his mother. Rani said, “I think respect starts at home. When children see their mother being ill-treated, it gives boys the impression that if their mother can be treated this way, other girls can be too. Fathers need to take responsibility for how they treat their wives because that’s what children observe. If your mother is respected and treated well, boys will learn to value women and treat them with dignity in society.”
Rani Mukherjee is back again with her bizarre takes justifying how wives screaming at their husband’s is alright with the retarded journalist supporting her, then jokes about what she does to husband back home?!

She added, “It all begins at home. Even small things like a father raising his voice at the mother shouldn’t happen. And if necessary, the mother should also raise her voice at the father—that’s how it should be.”
Rani recalled a childhood incident, sharing that she once slapped a boy, and jokingly referenced her husband, filmmaker Aditya Chopra. “I only slapped one boy, and the rest were my friends. And don’t ask my husband what happens to him every day at home,” she quipped.
Fans REACT
However, her comments were met with criticism from a segment of social media users. Many took to platforms like Reddit and Instagram to voice their disapproval, questioning her stance. One comment read, “I think she’s trying to be funny, but she doesn’t realise she’s not.” Another said, “She laughs and insists she made a great point.”
Some criticised her further, with remarks like, “What kind of behavior is this? I don’t understand why she’s not called out more often. Just because she’s from an older generation doesn’t mean she can say anything she wants,” and “We’ve talked about this, Rani. Not again!”
Others questioned the idea of raising voices, with comments such as, “Why would anyone raise their voice against anyone? Can’t we focus on peace and gentle conversations?” and “Normalizing shouting in a relationship—no matter who does it—is a strange stance to take.”
Rani’s Upcoming Project
Looking ahead, Rani is excited about her upcoming project, Mardaani 3. The film focuses on her character, Shivani Shivaji Roy, a police officer dedicated to fighting crime, especially against women, in her city. The crime drama is written by Aayush Gupta, directed by Abhiraj Minwala, and produced by Aditya Chopra. The third instalment of the Mardaani franchise is set to release on January 30.
