Varinder Singh Ghuman, widely recognised as the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder, passed away due to a heart attack in Punjab. His family and representatives confirmed that he had sought hospital treatment for shoulder pain before his death. The 42-year-old actor and bodybuilder died on Thursday.

His family expressed their shock at his sudden demise. Ghuman had visited Amritsar’s Fortis Hospital for a minor procedure related to a bicep injury, which was expected to be completed the same day. Unfortunately, he experienced a cardiac arrest and did not survive. His manager, Yadvinder Singh, stated that initial symptoms included shoulder pain, prompting the hospital visit.
About Ghuman’s Career
Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Varinder Singh Ghuman rose to prominence in the bodybuilding arena. He was crowned Mr. India in 2009 and was the runner-up at the Mr. Asia competition, establishing himself as one of India’s leading professional bodybuilders. His achievements garnered national recognition and positioned him as an ambassador for bodybuilding across Asia. In 2013, Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger selected Ghuman to represent his product line in Asia.
Notably, Ghuman was celebrated as the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder, a milestone highlighted by The Times of India. His dedication to vegetarianism became a defining aspect of his identity and a source of pride for India’s fitness community, showcasing that ethical choices can coincide with athletic excellence.
