The controversy surrounding Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil has escalated sharply, drawing criticism from multiple quarters over its lyrics and visuals. Featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, the song faced backlash online for being vulgar and insensitive, prompting intervention from authorities. The National Commission for Women also took cognisance of the issue and summoned the actors and makers over the lyrics. Amid mounting pressure, the song has now been taken down from official platforms.
Fatwa Issued Against Nora Fatehi In UP For Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke Song Controversy
The row intensified after a fatwa was issued against Nora Fatehi in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh by the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta. The religious body told ANI that the track contains content they consider “objectionable and against Islamic teachings,” following widespread backlash.
The fatwa was issued by Chief Mufti Maulana Ebrahim Hussain, who raised objections to what he described as “explicit and vulgar” visuals in the song. In a statement to India Today, he termed such content haram and a gunah-e-kabira (grave sin). Adding that participation in or promotion of such material goes against religious principles.
In response to the controversy, the film’s director, Prem and singer Mangli issued public apologies, expressing regret if the song hurt sentiments. They also confirmed that corrective steps have been taken, including removing the track.
For context, a fatwa is a non-binding legal opinion in Islam issued by a qualified religious scholar, known as a mufti, on a specific issue. It does not carry legal enforceability under state law but reflects a religious viewpoint.
Nora Fatehi Apologises Amid Facing Backlash
Amid mounting backlash, the Hindi version of Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke has been taken down from YouTube. The track was initially released in multiple languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada—by its official music partner. Responding to the controversy, Nora Fatehi stated on social media that she does not support the contentious version. The actress also welcomed its removal from all platforms. The episode reflects increasing accountability within the entertainment industry when it comes to content sensitivity.
About The Controversy
The opening verse of Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke features double entendre with graphic references to sex. The song was released in multiple languages—Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada—by Anand Audio, the film’s official music partner. The Hindi version has since been taken down from YouTube.
Over the past few days, the song has drawn criticism from the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA). Actress Kangana Ranaut and singer Armaan Malik, among others, have condemned its objectionable lyrics. ANI reported that a lawyer has filed a petition with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This action was done to seek an immediate ban and removal of the song, citing concerns that its lyrics and visuals are obscene and potentially harmful to minors. Additionally, a criminal complaint has been lodged with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell regarding the song.
