Over the years, Shahid Kapoor’s collaborations with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj have delivered some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable performances. From Kaminey to Haider and Rangoon, their creative partnership has consistently pushed boundaries, allowing Shahid to explore layered, challenging characters. Earlier this morning, at the trailer launch of O’Romeo, Shahid reflected on his journey with the celebrated director and shared candid insights into how their association began. Read on to know what he revealed.
Shahid Kapoor On Working With Vishal Bhardwaj Throughout The Years
Talking about every collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj, Shahid Kapoor described the experience as thrilling and unpredictable. “It’s always a very adventurous, crazy journey whenever I collaborate with Vishal sir,” he said. Adding that the filmmaker often jokes about having found Shahid through his father, actor Pankaj Kapur, “As he said, shayad woh mujhe Viraasat mein mile hai, joh dad ke saath woh nahi kar paaye shayad woh mere saath kar rahe hai, aisa tha pata nahi kya woh nahi kar paaye they have done iconic works.”
Recalling their first project together, Shahid admitted that he felt deeply nervous. “When I got to work with Vishal sir for the first time, I was very intimidated. Maine unko aur dad ko saath kaam karte dekha tha. Toh jab mujhe mauka mila, maine actually unse pucha, ‘Sir, aap mujhe is role ke liye kyun le rahe ho? I’ve not done anything to deserve this,’” he shared.
However, Vishal’s response stayed with him. The director assured, “‘But I feel that I see something that you can.’” Adding futher Kapoor said, “Which was for Kaminey and we started with that, and then he gave me Hamlet and Haider, which is a role that duniya mein joh bhi actor hai acting karna pasand karte hai, unhe pata hai sabse intimidating role wahi hota hai,” he said.
Shahid further revealed, “Then we did Rangoon, and now we’re doing O’Romeo, so I feel fortunate I get to be a part of his filmography, and I’m thankful to him that he called me after 7-8 years of us not having worked together.” Interestingly, Shahid revealed that this reunion happened through producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who first reached out to him about the project. “Actually, mujhe Sajid bhai ka aaya tha, Vishal sir ka nahi,” Shahid shared with a smile.
Shahid Kapoor’s reflections underline how mentorship, creative trust and challenging storytelling shape an actor’s growth. His journey with Vishal Bhardwaj stands as a testament to fearless cinema and evolving artistry, making O’Romeo yet another highly anticipated chapter in their celebrated collaboration.
