Filmmaker Shashank Khaitan opened up about his strong bond with actor Varun Dhawan, praising his talent and dedication. He believes Varun hasn’t yet shown the full range of his acting abilities and calls him an ‘underrated’ and hungry actor.

Shashank Khaitan Recalls How Varun Dhawan Handled Everything During His Injury

Speaking about Varun, he said to Bollywood Bubble, “Varun Dhawan is a very underrated actor. I think Varun is still not showing us his full range. He’s not given that one performance, which I know he’s capable of, which I keep telling him every day. I’ve seen what I love about him: he’s evolved, but I still love his hunger.”

Khaitan added that both he and Varun remain driven and constantly aim higher. He added, “We continue to remain hungry. We have greater expectations of ourselves. He wants to give that one performance. And I think it’s in the world. It’s going to happen, and it might happen sooner rather than later.”

Speaking about their time filming in Udaipur and Jaipur, Khaitan shared how the cast bonded deeply. “I was also injured during that time. I was literally lying on a bed and shooting; they came together more as well.”

He also praised Varun’s humility on set and said, “He has done so much work over the last 13 years. He’s a star in his own; he could have really behaved like a star, had reservations or kept his distance. I think just the way he welcomed everybody in that just led the way for everyone to become comfortable. I think by the end, Varun was behaving more like a newcomer versus everyone else.”

He also credited other actors and Dharma Productions for the support that they have shown him, even during the time he was injured and for the way they take care of every actor.
