Singer Sonu Nigam faced significant controversy after a video from his Bengaluru concert went viral, sparking outrage among Kannadigas. The event took place on April 25, during which a clip emerged showing Sonu allegedly refusing to sing in Kannada and referencing the Pahalgam attack.

Sonu Nigam’s Song Removed From Kannada Movie

According to a report by News18, the incident led to backlash from the Kannada film industry, resulting in the removal of his song from the film Kuladalli Keelyavudo. The film’s producers issued a statement expressing their displeasure: “There is no doubt that Sonu Nigam is a talented singer. However, we are deeply upset by his remarks about Kannada at the concert. We cannot tolerate the insult to Kannada, and as a result, we have decided to remove his song from the film.”

Sonu had recorded the song Manasu Haadtade for Kuladalli Keelyavudo, composed by Manomurthy and penned by Yogaraj Bhat. The song, released a month ago, garnered positive buzz and remains available on Sonu’s YouTube channel.

In light of the controversy, the film’s team has enlisted singer Chethan to re-record the track. Producer Santosh Kumar also announced that he will not collaborate with Sonu on future projects.

At the concert, Sonu reportedly declined a student’s repeated requests to sing a Kannada song, responding, “He was so rudely threatening me, Kannada, Kannada. This is the reason for what happened in Pahalgam.” The incident prompted the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) to issue a directive halting all collaborations with Sonu.

After sharing his side of the story on Instagram, Sonu apologised, “Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always.” He also faced legal action, with an FIR lodged against him at Avalahalli Police Station in Bengaluru for linking the request for a Kannada song to the Pahalgam attack.
