Actor Vishal Brahma, who was seen in Student of the Year 2, has been arrested at Chennai airport for carrying a huge amount of drugs. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) caught him on Monday after he landed in Chennai from Singapore on flight AI 347. Reports say he was carrying methaqualone worth nearly Rs 40 crore.
Vishal Brahma Arrested In Drugs Case
According to the Times of India, officials actually found 3.5 kg of cocaine in his luggage. The DRI, along with Chennai Customs, carried out the operation.
Vishal was stopped by air intelligence officers in the early morning of September 28, soon after his flight landed. During a search, they discovered a secret compartment at the bottom of his trolley bag. Inside, they found plastic packets filled with white powder. A quick field test confirmed it was cocaine.
Sources have said that Vishal was trapped by a Nigerian drug gang. The struggling actor was promised a holiday trip to Cambodia, but on his way back, he was asked to carry a trolley bag, which turned out to have the drugs hidden inside.
The police have now started a deeper investigation and are working to track down the gang behind this smuggling operation.
This is not the first time Tamil film industry names have been linked with drugs. Earlier in June, actors Krishna and Shrikant were also arrested under the Narcotics Act.
Investigations into their case revealed bigger issues, including links to drug sales, job scams, and even land grabbing. That probe reportedly began after a fight at a nightclub in June.
With Vishal Brahma’s arrest, the authorities are now looking into whether the cases are connected, and how deep the network of drug trafficking runs in the entertainment industry.
