Sussanne, Zayed Khan’s Mother Zarine Khan Passes Away At 81

Veteran actress, model, and interior designer Zarine Khan, wife of actor-director Sanjay Khan and mother of Sussanne Khan, has passed away at the age of 81. Zarine is survived by her husband, Sanjay Khan and their four children — Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan, and Zayed Khan.

As reported by News18, she breathed her last this morning at her Mumbai residence after battling age-related ailments.

Zarine Katrak, as she was known before marriage, was one of the early icons of India’s fashion and film industry during the 1960s and 1970s. She appeared in popular films such as Tere Ghar Ke Saamne and Ek Phool Do Mali, earning recognition for her grace and charm. Beyond her on-screen work, Zarine made a name for herself as a celebrated interior designer and a respected figure in Bollywood’s social circles.

Zarine and Sanjay Khan’s love story began in the most cinematic way — at a bus stop — and the two tied the knot in 1966. Despite being part of a glamorous world, Zarine chose to lead a private life, dedicating most of her time to her family.

Zarine’s 81st Birthday

Earlier this year, in July, Sussanne Khan had celebrated her mother’s 81st birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post featuring family moments and a touching caption that read: “Mama Mia… what an amazing Mama you are. All that I do and create in my life has to do with the way you formed my heart, my mind, and my grit… I am so honoured and grateful to be your little girl.”

Zarine’s legacy continues through her children and grandchildren. Her daughter Sussanne, who was married to actor Hrithik Roshan from 2000 to 2014, continues to co-parent their two sons, Hrehaan and Hridaan, with warmth and understanding — values she credits her late mother for instilling in her.

Details of the funeral are yet to be disclosed.
