The biographical drama Chhaava, which portrays the life of the esteemed Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been granted tax-free status in Goa and Madhya Pradesh. The government of Goa has officially declared that the Hindi film, featuring Vicky Kaushal as the iconic Maratha king, will be exempt from taxes in the state. Chhaava was released in theaters on February 14.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant shared the news on Wednesday evening via a post on X. He highlighted that the bravery and sacrifices of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj serve as a source of inspiration. In his announcement. He stated, “It is with great pleasure that I announce the film ‘Chhaava,’ based on the life and sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be tax-free in Goa.”

Sawant elaborated on the film’s significance. He noted,“This movie illustrates the valor and courage of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in his fight for Dev, Desh, and Dharma, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal. It brings the splendid history of our land to the forefront. The sacrifices made by the second Chhatrapati of Hindavi Swarajya, who bravely battled against the Mughal and Portuguese forces, inspire all of us.”
In a notable parallel, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced that Chhaava would be tax-free in his state. This announcement coincided with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He was the founder of the Maratha Empire and the father of Chhatrapati Sambhaji.
Tamil actor and politician Sarath Kumar praised the film, lauding its patriotic essence and portrayal of Swaraj. Telugu actor Allu Sirish also commended it, highlighting how historical cinema educates audiences about the great Indian king.
