Actor Zaira Wasim, who left Bollywood in 2019 citing concerns over her faith and religion, strongly condemned a recent incident involving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In an X post, she emphasised that “a woman’s dignity and modesty are not props to toy with, least of all on a public stage.” Her comments came after a video of Kumar pulling a hijab down from a woman’s face during a government event in Patna went viral on social media.

In her post, the 25-year-old actress shared her outrage: “As a Muslim woman, watching another woman’s niqab being pulled at so casually, accompanied by that nonchalant smile, was so infuriating. Power does not grant permission to violate boundaries. @NitishKumar owes that woman an unconditional apology.”
The viral video shows the 74-year-old JD(U) leader presenting a certificate to an AYUSH doctor during the event on Monday. Without warning, Kumar gestures toward the woman to remove her hijab, and before she can react, he reaches out and pulls it down, exposing her mouth and chin.
The incident has sparked widespread controversy. The Congress labelled Kumar’s actions as “shameless,” while the RJD questioned his mental state.
