A Gentleman, Qaidi Band, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz

Last Friday, several movies released together but sadly none of the movies managed to do decent business over the first weekend. To start with Raj and DK’s big budget flick ‘A Gentleman’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles – their sizzling chemistry and his double role could not do much to rake in decent numbers. The movie which saw an opening of Rs 3.75 crore nett, showed some growth on Saturday with approximately Rs 4 crore nett and Sunday was little better with Rs 4.50 crore nett. So the total three-day business of the movie is Rs 12.25 crore and that is just not enough for the first weekend considering the budget of the movie.

Next is the Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ which did a business of Rs 1.35 crore nett on Sunday, a little more than the opening day business of Rs 1.25 crore which was the same on Saturday. The total weekend business of the movie is Rs 3.85 crore and that’s too low a business for the movie. (Also Read: A Gentleman Movie Review: Strong action loses its way amid ill-conceived plot)

Another movie from YRF Productions ‘Qaidi Band’ marked the debut of Raj Kapoor’s grandson Aadar Jain and Anya Singh. However, the movie had a disastrous weekend as it did a business of Rs 25 lakh, which means absolutely no hopes left for the makers. Then there was a small budget movie called ‘Sniff’ by Amole Gupte which did a business of around Rs 50 lakh, better than ‘Qaidi Band’, yet too low.

Finally, let’s talk about Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ which released on August 11, 2017. The movie has had a great run at the box office as it entered the Rs 100 crore club last week itself. The movie did a business of Rs 4.75 crore nett on the third weekend which is better than any of the new releases, so the total business of the movie is Rs 126.94 crore nett approximately.
