Golmaal Again: The biggest Hindi Blockbuster of 2017. Enters 200 Crore club

Golmaal Again

Rohit Shetty’s horror comedy ‘Golmaal Again’, which released this Diwali, has finally entered the Rs 200 crore club. It has grossed Rs 3.30 crore nett in its fourth weekend and that has taken its nett business in India to Rs 200.75 crore nett. This makes ‘Golmaal Again’ the biggest Hindi blockbuster of 2017. If you have to take into consideration its ranking in all time business then the movie stands at the ninth position.

The movie has done over Rs 300 crore at the global box office. Another record set by it is that it has turned out to be the highest earning Diwali film of all time. Speaking on the film’s phenomenal success, producer and director Rohit Shetty said, “I am overwhelmed with the response the film has received and thank the worldwide audience for appreciating the film.” Shibasish Sarkar, COO, Reliance Entertainment commented, “It is very rare for a film to create such wonders at the box office. We are thankful to our friend and partner, Rohit for his incredible vision that made this possible.” (Also Read: Golmaal Again movie review: Ventures into ‘Horredy’ with humour perfectly in place)

Well, it is indeed surprising that in the year when Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan‘s star power couldn’t grab the desired number of eyeballs, Ajay Devgn emerged triumphant with ‘Golmaal Again’. We are indeed happy that the draught at box office has been quenched finally, with the recent releases.

'Black Panther' overpowers 'Aiyaary' in the first weekend, as the latter disappoints

Neeraj Pandey’s thriller ‘Aiyaary’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead roles has registered a poor business in its first weekend.

The movie did a business of Rs 4.25 crore nett on Sunday which is exactly the same as its Saturday business and the three day total business is Rs 11.75 crore nett which is a disappointment. Even, Sidharth’s earlier outing ‘Ittefaq’ which was made at half the budget of this movie had done a better business of Rs 14.82 crore nett in its first weekend.

The American superhero flick ‘Black Panther’ which released on the same day as ‘Aiyaary’ has overpowered the latter and has done a decent business of Rs 18.75 crore nett over the weekend. Even though the numbers aren’t great, they are much better than ‘Aiyaary’.

Coming back to the crime thriller, the start hasn’t been a good one and considering the foreign locales and the star cast, the budget of the movie is surely above Rs 30 crore nett. So, if you take the budget into consideration, the collections are quite low and the movie needs a huge boost in the weekdays to earn any profit whatsoever.  (Also Read: Aiyaary movie review: The men in army fail to shine through the muddled up plot)

'Black Panther' eats 'Aiyaary' on the first day at the box office

The third week of February saw two releases. One was Bollywood film ‘Aiyaary’ which stars Sidharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet, Manoj Bajpayee and Pooja Chopra in the lead whereas the other one is Hollywood film ‘Black Panther’.

‘Aiyaary’ was earlier slated to release in the Republic week but postponed it’s release because director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ finally managed to release. Even Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘PadMan’ postponed it’s release.

Talking about the first-day collection of the Neeraj Pandey directed patriotic thriller, the film managed to collect 3-3.25 crore nett at the box office.

The ‘Black Panther’ managed to collect 5-5.25 crore nett at the box office. Reportedly, the Hollywood film only had 55% of the Bollywood film’s screen space but still managed to collect numbers. (Also Read: Aiyaary: Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee’s film banned in Pakistan)
