Poster Boys, Daddy

Last Friday, Shreyas Talpade’s ‘Poster Boys’ starring Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Ashim Ahluwalia’s ‘Daddy’ starring Arjun Rampal clashed at the box office. None of the movies opened to a great business but ‘Poster Boys’ did better than ‘Daddy’. While this can be attributed to the fact that ‘Poster Boys’ is a light-hearted entertainer while ‘Daddy’ is a movie with a serious subject. Plus, the former has the Deol brothers who enjoy a massive fan following especially in northern states.

Now, the Monday box office collections are here and as expected the numbers of ‘Poster Boys’ are better than those of ‘Daddy’. However, none of the movies can be called a ‘HIT’.

Starting with Poster Boys’, the movie raked in Rs 1.10-1.25 crore nett on Monday. It’s a 35-40% drop from Friday numbers. The movie collections could still have been average, had it earned at least Rs 1.75 crore, but that did not happen. Now, the collections of the movie stand at Rs 8.35 crore nett approximately. Looking at the current trend, ‘Poster Boys’ will manage to do a business of around Rs 11 crore nett in the first week. (Also Read: Poster Boys movie review: This one is a laugh riot!)

Talking about Arjun Rampal-starrer ‘Daddy’, the movie has dropped even more on Monday with business of Rs 70 lakhs nett. The total collection till Monday stands at Rs 5.20 crore nett and it could possibly do a business of around Rs 7 crore nett in the first week.

So, if you have to analyse the box office status of both these movies, then honestly, none of them have managed to do good business. The Deol brothers’ magic and Arjun Rampal’s stint as the gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli could not do much to rake in the moolah. Now, as Kangana Ranaut-starrer ‘Simran’ and Farhan Akhtar-starrer ‘Lucknow Central’ enter the market this Friday, it’s going to get even tougher for these movies to sustain as the screens will be less and the audiences will obviously look forward to the new entrants.
