‘QQS’ beats ‘SMZA’ in the first weekend at the box office

Qarib Qarib Singlle first weekend collection

This week saw the release of two films, Irrfan Khan and Parvathy-starrer ‘Qarib Qarib Singlle’ and Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda-starrer ‘Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana’. Both the films took a slow start at the box office, but showed growth. However, ‘QQS’ showed some really good upward trend.

The Tanuja Chandra directorial collected Rs 1.70 crore on day one, Rs 3 crore on Saturday, and Rs 3.50 crore on Sunday, taking the three-day collection to Rs 8.20 crore. It is to be noted that the film showed a good growth over the weekend. If it stays stable over the weekdays, then this will surely be a winner at the box office. On the other hand, ‘Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana’ too showed a growth, but it couldn’t manage to collect as much as ‘Qarib Qarib Singlle’. The Ratnaa Sinha directorial collected Rs 3.65 crore in its first weekend. The collection is below average, and this movie too needs to be stable at the box office to at least come in the safe zone.

Talking about ‘Ittefaq’, in its second weekend the movie has collected Rs 3.40 crore, taking the till date total to Rs 24.29 crore. If not a hit, this movie is not even a flop. We can call it a semi-hit flick.

'Black Panther' overpowers 'Aiyaary' in the first weekend, as the latter disappoints

Neeraj Pandey’s thriller ‘Aiyaary’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead roles has registered a poor business in its first weekend.

The movie did a business of Rs 4.25 crore nett on Sunday which is exactly the same as its Saturday business and the three day total business is Rs 11.75 crore nett which is a disappointment. Even, Sidharth’s earlier outing ‘Ittefaq’ which was made at half the budget of this movie had done a better business of Rs 14.82 crore nett in its first weekend.

The American superhero flick ‘Black Panther’ which released on the same day as ‘Aiyaary’ has overpowered the latter and has done a decent business of Rs 18.75 crore nett over the weekend. Even though the numbers aren’t great, they are much better than ‘Aiyaary’.

Coming back to the crime thriller, the start hasn’t been a good one and considering the foreign locales and the star cast, the budget of the movie is surely above Rs 30 crore nett. So, if you take the budget into consideration, the collections are quite low and the movie needs a huge boost in the weekdays to earn any profit whatsoever.  (Also Read: Aiyaary movie review: The men in army fail to shine through the muddled up plot)

'Black Panther' eats 'Aiyaary' on the first day at the box office

The third week of February saw two releases. One was Bollywood film ‘Aiyaary’ which stars Sidharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet, Manoj Bajpayee and Pooja Chopra in the lead whereas the other one is Hollywood film ‘Black Panther’.

‘Aiyaary’ was earlier slated to release in the Republic week but postponed it’s release because director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ finally managed to release. Even Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘PadMan’ postponed it’s release.

Talking about the first-day collection of the Neeraj Pandey directed patriotic thriller, the film managed to collect 3-3.25 crore nett at the box office.

The ‘Black Panther’ managed to collect 5-5.25 crore nett at the box office. Reportedly, the Hollywood film only had 55% of the Bollywood film’s screen space but still managed to collect numbers. (Also Read: Aiyaary: Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee’s film banned in Pakistan)

Next week two Bollywood films namely ‘Welcome to New York’ and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ are slated to release and looks like ‘Aiyaary’ doesn’t stand chance to make up in the second week also.
