‘1921’and ‘Mukkabaaz’ score more than Saif’s ‘Kaalakaandi’ at the box office

If three films respectively starring Zareen Khan, Saif Ali Khan and a relatively newcomer actor like Vineet Singh have hit the screens on the same day, we are sure everyone would expect that the movie starring Saif would lead at the box office. But, unfortunately that has not happened this weekend.

On January 12, 2018, three films had hit the screens; Zareen-starrer ‘1921’, Anurag Kashyap’s directorial ‘Mukkabaaz’ and Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Kaalakaandi’. From all the three films, it was ‘1921’ that did the best in the first weekend.

The Vikram Bhatt directorial collected Rs 6.25 crore approx. in three days. Well, this collection is quite low, and the only positive thing for the movie is that it has collected more than a Saif Ali Khan-starrer.

Talking about ‘Mukkabaaz’, the film started on a very slow note, but picked up during the weekend. It has collected Rs 4 crore approx. and if it continues to do well in the weekdays then it might just turn out to be a sleeper hit.

Well, the biggest shock of the week is Saif’s ‘Kaalakaandi’. The movie has received mixed reviews, but looks like with very minimal promotions, this movie couldn’t grab any eyeballs. The first weekend collection of the movie is Rs 2.90 crore approx. Unfortunately, one more flop for Saif Ali Khan. (Also Read: Kaalakaandi movie review: ALL kaala and NO kaandi)

'Mukkabaaz', 'Kaalakaandi' and '1921' show a dull opening at the box office

Yesterday, three movies released in cinema halls namely ‘Mukkabaaz’, ‘Kaalakaandi’ and ‘1921’. None of the movies managed to register a good opening at the box office. The combined collections of all the three movies amounts to Rs 3 crore despite the fact that they had 3000 screens in totality.

It’s a clear indicator that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer ‘Tiger Zinda Hai‘ is still ruling the roost when it comes to box office figures. And among the three new releases, Vikram Bhatt’s horror flick ‘1921’ earned the maximum numbers as it collected approximately Rs 1.50 crore nett. Inspite of a few hiccups in its release, the movie still managed to earn the maximum amongst the three. However, if we have to compare it with the previous two films from the franchise, the numbers are still quite less.

Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Kaalakaandi’ did a business of Rs 1 crore nett which is too low a number to start with. Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Mukkabaaz’ did the lowest business amongst the three movies as it collected just Rs 75 lakhs nett on day 1. Now, let’s see how these movies pan out over the weekend.
