When Jeetendra and Hema Malini were almost married

When it all started?

It is a well-known fact that late actor Sanjeev Kumar was also attracted to Hema Malini. Apparently, it was due to his slightly shy nature that he sought Jeetendra's help in telling Hema about his feelings. But, Hema didn't agree on this proposal as she liked Sanjeev as a friend but didn't have special feelings for him. It was after Hema rejected Sanjeev’s proposal, that the actress and Jeetendra got close to each other and expressed their love while they were working on a film titled 'Dulhan' (1974).

Ready to tie the knot

Reportedly, after expressing their love for each other, Jeetendra and Hema Malini were ready to tie the knot. Even their respective families had agreed to their relationship. Before Hema entering his life, Jeetendra was dating Shobha, who was an air hostess in British Airways. It is said that Shobha and actor Dharmendra had put a lot of efforts to stop Jeetendra and Hema Malini's marriage.

When Hema Malini stepped back

The preparation of Jeetendra and Hema Malini's marriage was going on. Both of them had also reached Tirupati with their parents for the ceremony. But, what happened further is something that changed all their lives. Reports suggest that Hema Malini developed cold feet and said no to marry Jeetendra at the last minute.

Life moved on…

It's said that after the marriage was called off, Jeetendra waited for Hema for some time. But, as they say, marriages are planned in heaven. Jeetendra moved on and married Shobha in year 1974. Hema also went ahead in her life and married actor Dharmendra in year 1980. The two (Dharmendra and Hema Malini) had converted to Islam to marry as the actor's first wife Prakash Kaur was not ready to divorce him.

The love saga that remained incomplete

Looks like Jeetendra and Hema Malini were not destined to marry each other. but as they say, all's well that ends well. Though their love story remained incomplete, both of them are happy in their lives along with their respective families. They continue to share a friendly and dignified equation, and were seen judging a TV reality show together, in 2008.

Today, veteran actor Jeetendra celebrates his 75th birthday. Famously known as ‘The Jumping Jack’ in Bollywood, the talented actor had made his film debut in year 1959 with a small role in ‘Navrang’. He had also played actress Sandhya’s body double in the film ‘Navrang’. Since then, the actor has come a long way. Today, he is happily settled in his personal life along with his family. His wife Shobha Kapoor, children Ekta and Tusshar Kapoor and grandson Laksshya. But, there was a time when Jeetendra had fallen in love with his beautiful co-star and actress Hema Malini. Many of the moviegoers would know about the love story of Hema Malini along with her actor-husband Dharmendra. But not many of them would be aware that Jeetendra and Hema Malini were almost married.
