Shah Rukh Khan is known as King of romance in Bollywood. In real life too, the actor’s love story with wife Gauri Khan is the kind what classic romantic tales are made of. The couple has been married for almost three decades and naturally, they have some of the filmiest moments that are worth recollecting over and over again.

Today, on Gauri’s 50th birthday, we bring you a very interesting story from the time when Shah Rukh and Gauri were facing obstacles in order to convince the latter’s family about their marriage. SRK was once threatened with a gun by Gauri’s brother. But even that couldn’t stop the actor from standing for his love and eventually marrying the girl of his dreams.

In the book titled ‘King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema’, film-critic and journalist Anupama Chopra has shared some very interesting details of SRK-Gauri’s love story. Back in the 90s, Shah Rukh had established himself as an actor with his hit show ‘Fauji’.

However more than Shah Rukh’s religion, Gauri’s father, Ramesh Chibba objected to the actor’s career. Gauri’s father didn’t hold any high opinion of the film industry. Gauri’s family was so against SRK, that her mother Savita had even consulted an astrologer in order to break them up. But nothing seemed to work in their favour.

And it was Gauri’s brother Vikrant who even resorted to threatening SRK with a gun! “Vikrant had a reputation of being a goonda (thug). He threatened Shah Rukh with a gun, but the posturing didn’t scare his sister’s suitor,” reads a part in Anupama’s book.

They say some jodis are made in heaven and SRK-Gauri’s pairing is hands-down one of them. The couple eventually tied the knot on October 25, 1991. They will be celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary very soon.

Now doesn’t heir love story seem to appear straight out of a Hindi film? Well, we hope we will get to see their life translated on the celluloid someday.
