Deepika Padukone is one of the most successful actresses in the industry. Deepika made her acting debut with Om Shanti Om and then there was no looking back for her. Today, she is one of the top actresses in Bollywood. The actress has an inspirational journey and many look up to her. Apart from being known for her brilliant acting chops, many are aware she’s a woman who speaks her mind. Today, we take a look back at the time she stood up for herself.

In case you don’t remember, back in 2014, a leading newspaper had printed Deepika’s photos and it was titled ‘OMG! Deepika Padukone’s Cleavage Show’.

The Padmaavat actress came across the article and shared snapshots of the same on Twitter. She wrote, “YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND cleavage! You got a problem!!??” Fans loved how Deepika took a stand for herself.

Bollywood celebs including Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Kapoor and Huma Qureshi among others extended their support. Priyanka Chopra, who never shies away from speaking her mind, took to Twitter and wrote, “Well done @deepikapadukone! Taken a stand for all of us. Xoxo.” Arjun Kapoor, who shares a great bond with Deepika, tweeted, “We have hit a new low today… forget complimenting a woman have the ability to respect a woman first…

Aditi Rao Hydari wrote, “Thank you for this! About time! #RESPECT” @deepikapadukone: YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??” Jacqueline Fernandez extended her support and tweeted, “@deepikapadukone #istandbydeepikapadukone.”

Later, Deepika penned a letter on women getting objectified. An excerpt from her letter read, “I am not naïve about my own profession; it is one that requires lots of demanding things of me. A character may demand that I be clothed from head to toe or be completely naked, and it will be my choice as an actor whether or not I take either. Understand that this is a ROLE and not REAL, and it is my job to portray whatever character I choose to play convincingly.”

On the work front, Deepika will be seen in Project K, The Intern remake, Fighter, and Pathaan with Shah Rukh Khan.
