Raima Sen

Actress Raima Sen says she connected to her character in upcoming Bengali film “Abby Sen” in which she plays a singer from the ’80s.

“My costume is of that phase, my hairstyle and whatever image make-over reflects that era, about which I have no direct experience. I am a simple girl, a chatterbox. Much like what I am in real life. In the film I am a practising musician who gets introduced to Abby Sen,” Raima told PTI.

“And yes I have watched many Bengali films of that time and before and heard from my elders. But when you etch out a role, you solely depend on the director’s note. Here the workshop with director Atanu Ghosh helped.”

Raima, 35, who has starred in period films like “Parineeta”, “Chokher Bali” and “Naukadubi”, said “Abby Sen” also has an element of periodicity as it refers to a bygone era when there was no mobiles and people wrote letters.

“For some people it will bring nostalgia for sure. It is good that there is more interest in period films in Tollywood now. We enjoy watching period-historical films, I simply love them,” she said.

About co-actor Abir Chatterjee in “Abby Sen”, with whom she had earlier been pitted in “Hrid Majharey”, Raima said, “We are good friends and if you are good friends then that bonding shows on-screen as well.”

“Abby Sen” will release on October 30.

Raima said she is eagerly awaiting the audience’s response to her portrayal in Bollywood film “Ishq Kabhi Kariyo” opposite Prateik Babbar.

“This is one of my two upcoming Bollywood releases.

‘Ishq’ is a modern tale of extra-marital affairs. And there is a thriller element thrown in,” the actress said.
