From working with Saif and Shahid to not being on social media, Kangana Ranaut reveals it all

Actress Kangana Ranaut is a strong woman in real life and she has always stood by what she believes in. In spite of being in many controversies, the actress has shined with her spectacular performances in her movies.

As she is all geared up for her upcoming flick ‘Rangoon’ that is set to release on February 24, 2017, in a recent interaction with the media, she spoke candidly about her equation with her co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor and also spoke about why she never had an inclination for social media. Most challenging part of your role in ‘Rangoon’?

The character is an actress of that time and if you see the cinema in those days was very primitive. The silent films had just gone out of fashion and the sound had just come into motion picture, so the films were very primitive, in terms of the content, the execution and the overall feel of the film. The acting too was primitive so my character Julia has a bit of a nasal tone to her dialogue delivery. I also had to learn many things as she was a stunt woman.

How was the experience of working with Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor?

Apart from being eye-candies, they are very good actors and they are terrific. Their combination with Vishal Sir is also terrific.

Who are you more comfortable with, Saif or Shahid?

Both have their own charm. Saif is that classy man who would open the door for you and pull the chairs for you. Shahid will walk with head phones and tease you. So he has that boyish charm to him. I loved spending time with both of them.

You made a statement about nepotism on ‘Koffee With Karan 5’. What do you have to say on nepotism?

I don’t have a speech to give on nepotism, but I just stated the obvious.

‘Rangoon’ is a period drama film, do you think it will click at the box office?

Of course, and precisely why it’s a special film because there are so many films coming out every month, but none of them can brag about the kind of scale and authenticity that ‘Rangoon’ has. So, it’s a different film. Precisely why it has the possibility of having a longer run not just in theatres, but in people’s memories too.

Why are you not on social media?

I feel that social media is a bundle of contradictions. To interact with people you don’t have any personal equation with. I don’t understand what’s the interaction on what basis and on what level, it seems very business-oriented. I get a lot of inner themes like if you tweet you get this much money and all of that and to be on a platform where I actually have my personal opinion and to then sell my opinions like that is not something I’m comfortable with, because that’s not for sale. I’m projecting myself to be genuine through a set of people and it would be 20 million or 20 people and they think that this is what Kangana actually believes in. That opinion is being sold for a couple of lakhs and that’s a fact. So, I think I just can’t figure it out.
