Nandita Das hails from an illustrious family as her father is the famous Indian painter Jatin Das and mother, Varsha Das, is a writer. When she completed her Master’s in Social Work (MSW), she started working with an NGO called Ankur and then for Alarippu, an organisation for the underprivileged children. She made her debut in the film Prakash Jha’s “Pariniti” in 1987, and is known to have portrayed some iconic roles in movies like Earth (1998), A Peck on the Cheek (2002) and Bawander (directed by Jagmohan Mundhra). Nandita has also been a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. She got married to Subodh Maskara on January 5, 2010 and they have one child.
