Niece of veteran Tamil comedian Cho Ramaswamy, Ramya Krishnan was born in Chennai in a Tamil speaking family. Krishnan, who has acted in over 200 films made in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, made her acting debut at the age of 13 with 1983 Tamil film Vellai Manasu. While her Telugu debut happened with 1984 film Kanchu Kagada, she made her Malayalam and Kannada film debuts with Neram Purambol (1986) and Pushpaka Vimana (1987) respectively. Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan, Khal Nayak and Dayavan are some of the Hindi films she has acted in. Her portrayal of Raj Mata Sivagami Devi in the Baahubali series won her worldwide critical acclaim and recognition. Krishnan has been awarded the Filmfare Award South thrice in her glorious career.
