Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film L2: Empuraan experienced a significant decline in earnings on its seventh day, with a collection of close to Rs 6 crore in India on Wednesday. As the film completed its first week in theatres, its total domestic box office earnings reached Rs 84.40 crore nett.

According to the tracking website Sacnilk, the movie earned around Rs 5.50 crore net on Wednesday. It represents a drop from the previous day’s collection of Rs 8.5 crore. Although the weekday slump is expected, the film may regain momentum during its second weekend in theatres.

The makers of Empuraan have announced that the film has surpassed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide and achieved the distinction of being the fastest film to gross Rs 50 crore in Kerala. Given its current pace, L2: Empuraan is likely to cross the Rs 100-crore nett mark in India within the next few days.

As the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, L2 Empuraan explores the enigmatic character of Stephen Nedumpally. Another name for this character is Khureshi Ab’raam which is played by Mohanlal. The film delves deeper into the life of the man who controls a nexus that combats drug cartels. The movie also introduces Pranav Mohanlal, Mohanlal’s son, as a young Stephen in 1980s Mumbai. It sets up American actor Rick Yune as the new villain, leading the Shenlong ‘Shen’ Triad crime syndicate. Also, seen in the film are Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Abhimanyu Singh.
