Zakir Khan Cites Genetic Illness For Taking A Break From Comedy

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has recently announced that he will be taking an extended break from comedy. In a new interview, he revealed that the decision is primarily driven by health concerns, including hereditary illnesses within his family. Zakir admitted that neglecting his health over the years—working relentlessly for over a decade—has taken a toll on his body. He acknowledged that pushing himself continuously has led to physical strain, prompting him to prioritise his well-being and step back from the stage.

Zakir Khan Opens Up On Health Issues Being Reason For Break

In an interview with Gulf News, Zakir explained that some of his health issues are inherited. “I need to take care of my health. There are certain genetic illnesses in my family that tend to surface after a particular age. On top of that, I’ve pushed my body hard—sleeping for just two hours and then rushing to meet thousands of people. As soon as I land in a new city, I start meeting fans,” he shared.

Zakir On Success

He also reflected on the pressure of being the first in his family to achieve such widespread success. “It’s a huge responsibility, not just towards myself but also towards future generations. I want to build some bridges for them,” Zakir said. He admitted that the relentless work ethic over the past decade, driven by this sense of responsibility, has now begun to impact his health.

“When you keep your foot on the accelerator for ten straight years, your body is bound to suffer,” Zakir explained. “Initially, I thought I could manage both health and work. But last year, during our tour in the US, I realised that it was impossible to do both simultaneously. That’s when I decided to take a break.”

Zakir Khan Announces Break From Comedy

A viral clip from his Hyderabad show surfaced recently, where Zakir mentioned he would be away from stand-up until around 2030. However, in the interview, he clarified that this statement was specific to Hyderabad. He explained that his break would be for a few years, and once he resumes work, it will take time for him to return to the city.

Zakir Khan’s announcement came during his live show in Hyderabad as part of his ongoing Papa Yaar tour. He addressed the audience, stating, “It will be a break of three, four, or five years to focus on my health and personal matters. Everyone here is very close to my heart. Your support means everything to me, and I am deeply grateful. Thank you so much.”

He also shared his plans on Instagram, mentioning that all his shows scheduled until June 20 would be a celebration of his journey, before he steps back to focus on his health and future.
