Actor Nani On How He Picks His Scripts

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Actor Nani shares an anecdote about how he picks his scripts. He says, “At the end of the day, I think more than anything, I am a producer or an actor, but above all, I see myself as part of the audience. I try to look at everything from that perspective. If a project excites me, that’s my first cue. It’s not even about being a “good” audience member. I believe I am the audience. There’s no good or bad audience. There is just the audience, and I don’t separate myself from them.”

He added, “I don’t say, “They are the audience; let me make films for them.” I say, “Let me make films for me.” Because I am the audience. I truly believe that if I like something, they will like it too. That’s the trust I’ve always had, and thankfully, it has never let me down.”

He continued, “Whenever I’ve had doubts about a film, even after doing it, those were the projects that didn’t quite work with the audience either. But when I believed in something wholeheartedly, when it worked for me, it also worked for them. I’ve never drawn a line between myself and the audience.”

He futher added, “When something excites me, I pursue it. Now, whenever we talk about the audience, I see my own face in them. I believe we are all the same at the end of the day.”

He concluded with, “Once I pick a story, I ask myself, “As an audience, who do I want to see in this role?” Does the film need a star, or will newcomers bring a certain freshness? Will a star add value because of the way the scenes and emotions are written? In the end, it all comes down to one thing. How do I want to see this film? That’s the question I always ask myself, and that’s what guides me.”
