Adnan Sami Khan is a singer, musician, composer, and pianist. He has performed in Indian and Western music in many languages. He has been awarded with Padma Shri (India’s fourth-highest civilian award) for his remarkable contribution to music. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Adnan Sami opened up on his mother-son bond with legendary singer, whom he calls Maa, Asha Bhosale and their fun banter.

Adnan Sami Reflects On His Close Bond With ‘Maa’ Asha Bhosale

When shown a picture of him and Asha Bhosale, talking about their song together, Aao Na, Adnan Sami said, “Woh toh Maa hai hi.” Speaking of their collaboration, the singer said, “I have such a special place for her in my heart. We fight a lot as well, like I said, she is a mother to me. We share that bond of getting upset with each other, scolding each other. She has every right to be angry at me, and so do I. We have that relationship, and it’s all fine too. The love, respect and adulation that I have for her is unparalleled.”

Continuing, he said, “Once, Lata didi said something incredible, ‘Asha can sing my songs, but I can never sing hers’. That’s the ultimate compliment she can get. She is 91, and at 91, she has her murkhis, tans, and the reyaaz that she does are still untouchable. Doing these at this age is a miracle. She is still able to deliver such a bang-on rendition, it would put many young singers to shame.”

The composer added, “What I love about recording with her is that you are the composer who’s like the kid in a candy store. You give her a sentence, and she can create versions of it, and it’s like a buffet. It will confuse me, and I need to think about what’s happening. I would want all of it. That’s the variety and options she gives you; it’s remarkable. That’s the dream of every composer. We had also collaborated on an independent single, 25 years ago, and that was a long gap.”

Concluding, Sami said, “Yes, we have done film songs and others, but this independent single together wasn’t done before. This song was like the right track for us, and she loved it. We just got together and we collaborated on it. After the song, she suggested, let’s make an unplugged version of it. And, I was like, of course. So we did that too. Her enthusiasm at this age is like any new singer; she also wants to do things like this.”
