EXCLUSIVE: Amit Mishra Wasn’t ‘Completely Satisfied’ With Dilwale’s Manma Emotion Jaage Despite 8 Hours In Recording Room; Confesses, “It Was My First Playback For Varun Dhawan”

Amit Mishra is a singer, songwriter, voice actor and live performer. He became more well known after the song Bulleya sung from the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. For this rendition of the song, he won a Filmfare Award for new music talent, Screen Award for Best Male Playback and IIFA Award for Best Male Playback. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Amit Mishra recalls working with Varun Dhawan and his father, David Dhawan.

Amit Mishra Opens Up On Working For Varun Dhawan’s Songs

When asked about working for songs in Varun Dhawan’s films, Amit Mishra said, “Manma Emotion Jaage was my first playback. I had a chance to sing for him, and I recorded the song for 8 hours continuously. Usme ek samne do ya teen break liye honge, and I started recording at 12AM, raat mein, aur subah 8:30 baje main ghar gaya tha. Mujhe yaad hai ki Kaushik Da mujhe bol kara rahe the, aur Da ne kaha, ‘Tum log session kar lo, main morning mein aake sunta hoon.’ Unko laga ki hum shayad 3 ya 4 ghante baad ghar chale jayenge. Mujhe satisfaction nahi mil raha tha ki maine deliver nahi kar paya hu.”

Adding further, “Aur morning mein bhi jab Da take sunane aaye, tab bhi main apne takes se happy nahi tha. Shayad se, as an artist, kabhi aisa hota nahi hai ki hum apne kaam se completely satisfied ho jayein. Morning mein Da ne suna, aur unka reaction tha, ‘8 ghante mein tum nahi gaye?’ Jaise he was like, ‘Theek hai, achha deliver kiya tum log ne, it’s okay.’ Na to mujhe satisfaction mila tha, na Da ko.”

Mishra continues, “Par jab wo unke liye gaya, tab jo mera projection aur dynamics the, wo unke deliverance se match ho raha tha. Jab wo apna act kar rahe the, toh. I guess mujhe tab David Dhawan Sir se baat karne ka mauka bhi mila tha, aur phir uske baad ek session tha jo Ganpati Bappa Morya aur Judwaa 2 ka tha. Manma Emotion ek superhit song tha! Bahut popular hua, youth ko bohot pasand aaya. Because it was more of a hip-hop track, aur thoda trendy vibe usme thi. Of course, he was looking damn good in the video as well.”

Amit Mishra Recalls David Dhawan’s Compliment For His Song

Amit Mishra talks about recording Judwaa 2 songs, “Uske baad, phir Judwaa 2 ka song record kiya—Ganpati Bappa Morya and Pareshaan Kare Chhoriya. Mujhe personally David Sir se achhe se milne ka mauka mila. Then he complimented me on one thing—ki jaise wo baat karte hain, waise hi main gaata hoon. Jaise, ‘Goriya Re’ mein Varun Sir ka projection hota hai, waise hi. I was very happy with this compliment, ki at least kuch match ho raha tha usme. But again, the same thing I mentioned—ek actor hota hai jo screen pe le jaake us gaane ko apna bana leta hai. That’s what I feel.”
