Nidhi Shetty Backs Rupali Ganguly’s National Award Demand For TV Actors

Supporting the demand for television actors to be recognised at the National Awards, several actors, including Hiten Tejwani and Rupali Ganguly, have voiced their agreement. Sharing her perspective on the issue, Nidhi Shetty said, “I think, TV industry should also be considered for the National Award because what they are doing is not usual—they are equally working hard. Normally, when you’re doing movies, it’s maybe a 3-month thing where you shoot for 3 months, and it’s done. But for us, we are shooting every day for 13 hours.”

Further highlighting the long work hours, she added,” Aaj shoot karte hain, agle din telecast ho jata hai. Kabhi-kabhi overtime bhi karte hain. And it’s not that TV is not doing well. A lot of people may not be watching movies, but they are watching TV. I feel TV actors should be considered for National Awards. It’s become categorised. Earlier, even web series didn’t get it; now they have a category. I think web series people also get it now, I’m not sure, but TV deserves it too. But I still think the TV industry deserves it—we are equally working hard and doing good work. It’s not random stuff; people are watching it because they like it.”

Nidhi Shetty Gives Her Take On Pay Disparity In TV Industry

Sharing her perspective on pay disparity in the television industry, and highlighting the gender bias often pointed out by several actors, Nidhi said, “I think ab woh dheere-dheere kam ho raha hai TV industry mein. Pehle toh yeh bahut tha, but now the TV industry is evolving and yeh cheez kam ho rahi hai. I think like what Rupali ma’am is doing, I don’t know how much she’s getting paid, but she deserves it. What she is doing, where she is at, she deserves it. So I don’t think it’s like male actors are getting more now.”

The actress concluded, “And ab toh TV industry mein aisa ho nahi raha. A lot of people are demanding what they want, and if they’re not getting paid, they’re like, ‘Theek hai, main show nahi karungi.’ If you need them, then you will have to pay them. I think yeh movie industry mein abhi bhi chal raha hai, but in the TV industry it has reduced a lot. From what I’ve heard, it has improved a lot. I think you’re getting equally paid—slowly things are changing. I hope it completely changes.”
