Chandan Roy Sanyal On Shah Rukh Khan
In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Chandan Roy Sanyal shares an anecdote about Shah Rukh Khan. He says, “Shah Rukh Khan mere liya Sunil hai, Kabhi Ha Kabhi Naa Ke, class 8th me tha tab ek film aayi thi aur mere ghar pe telephone nahi tha aur mereko ek class me ek ladki thi jisse mujhe ishq ho gaya tha, jaisa Sunil ka Anna ke saath. Sunil was a prototype for all the lost lover who just loved…. class me aati thi, paas se guzarti thi toh khushbu aa jaati thi toh waise hi day dreamer tha mai, toh jab maine kabhi haa kabhi na dekhi thi toh, Sunil, Anna ko pyaar karta hai aur mil hi nahi rahi Anna toh Shah Rukh Khan mere liye woh the… 90s me jab mai bada ho raha tha tabh Sunil from Kabhi Ha Kabhi Naa, Bazigaar… I mean sabka hi hai.” (For me, Shah Rukh Khan was Sunil from Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. Like him, I had a school crush and was a daydreamer. Watching him love Anna but never get her felt personal. Growing up in the ’90s, Sunil and Baazigar made SRK my hero.)
Chandan On Sharing A Set With Shah Rukh Khan
“Toh jab main unke saamne pohocha abhinay karne itne saalo baad, bhale film charcha me nahi aayi, chali na chali magar maine baade maze kiye unke saath. Maine at least Shah Rukh Khan sahab ke saath 1 on 1 scene kiya maine. Jiske liye mujhe paise mil, unke saath rehearsal kar raha hu, acchi-acchi baatien bata rahe hai, mai seekh raha hu toh yeh kitno ko mauka milta hai? Ek ladka joh Karolbaag me paida hua hai, saarkari school me padha hai, college hai, home tuition padhate hue, usko bolna abhineta banna, aasan nahi haina, mai kaha kaha nahi gaya. Meri unse zyda baatien nahi hui magar woh bohot hi pakke Delhi wale hai, unhone mujhese pucha tha ki tu kaha se hai, maine kaha Karolbaag se hu, Rajindernagar se, toh joh Rajindernagar bolte haina woh Delhi wale bolte hai.” (Acting with Shah Rukh Khan was a dream come true. I did a one-on-one scene, rehearsed with him, and learned so much. For a boy from Karol Bagh who struggled to become an actor, it was surreal. We didn’t talk much, but as a true Delhiite, he recognized Rajinder Nagar instantly.)
“Maine kaha aapke baare me sab pata hai, kaha rehete ho, kaha padhe ho, maine kaha aapke ghar ke pass joh aate ki chakki hai waha se mere ghar pe aata, aata hai toh he was surprised, toh that’s who he is naa, he’s a magician, he’s one of a kind, unka joh aura hai, joh vibe hai, joh unki journey hai. Toh he’s someone I look upto, how he does things. Abhi woh Rotterdam Festival gaaye the last year, unka ek bohot baada podcast tha stage pe toh jab woh baat karte haina toh sunne ka mann karta hai.” (Working with Shah Rukh Khan was a dream come true. I got to rehearse, perform a one-on-one scene, and learn from him. For a boy from Karol Bagh who fought to become an actor, it felt surreal. We didn’t talk much, but as a true Delhiite, he immediately recognized Rajinder Nagar.)
