Chitrangda Singh is an actress who works primarily in Hindi films. She made her acting debut with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005). Singh is known for her appearance in Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011), Desi Boyz (2011) and I, Me Aur Main (2013), Baazaar (2018), Bob Biswas (2021) and Gaslight (2023). She turned producer with Soorma (2018). Singh has since appeared in the series Modern Love Mumbai (2022) and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (2025). In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Chitrangda Singh reacted to Housefull 5 being labelled a sex comedy rather than a family film.
Chitrangda Singh On Housefull 5 Turning Into Sex Comedy Rather Than Family Film
When asked how Housefull 5 has turned into a sex comedy film rather than the original family films, Chitrangda Singh said, “I mean, the men are flawed in the film. The men are definitely flawed. I’m not defending the film at all, but I feel like a lot of jokes are also on the men. If you watch it, it’s actually very balanced. The kind of jokes and practical jokes being cracked on Abhishek, Riteish, and even Akshay—his character is the but of many jokes too. So yes, like you’re saying, of course, humour has changed from the first film. There is a shift, and there will be a change in the writing, especially with a new director coming on board. Everything can’t remain the same.”
She added, “And I feel like every film has its own tone, its own kind of humour. Like I’ve always said—for example, Golmaal, or even if you look at the Pink Panther series in English—it also has a certain kind of humour which is somewhat adult, in a way that we, as adults, understand that it’s just a joke. It’s not supposed to be taken so seriously. We’re not taking any moral or social responsibility, or gender responsibility, in a comedy. It’s not about that. It’s entertainment. Even in the trailer, we are clearly saying this is what the film is. And that’s exactly what the film is.”
Chitrangda Singh On How Everything Is Judged Harshly
Continuing, the actress said, “I don’t think it should be judged so harshly, like this is the only parameter by which it must be evaluated. Socially, nowadays, we are so careful about everything we say. There’s an objection to everything—every word. We edit, censor, and sanitise so much that we’ve completely lost our sense of humour. Someone or the other will have something to say about it.”
Concluding, she said, “I mean, I don’t know, there are so many films that we go and watch in Western cinema, in Hollywood. And we’re okay with them because we understand, ‘Oh, this is that kind of comedy.’ So I feel that even this film has a certain tone, which we, as adults, should understand. Anyway, it’s a UA certificate, right? And the censor board has passed it, so I suppose that’s that.”
