EXCLUSIVE: Donal Bisht Confesses Being Shortlisted For Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha Before Kareena Kapoor’s Casting; States, “Jiski Kismat Jahan Likhi Hai”

Donal Bisht is a popular TV actress known for portraying strong and diverse characters on the small screen. She gained recognition with Ek Deewaana Tha, where her performance was widely appreciated. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Donal Bisht revealed auditioning for the lead role in Laal Singh Chaddha; however, later Kareena Kapoor was chosen to be the lead. Donal Bisht Opens Up On Auditioning For Laal Singh Chaddha

When asked about receiving a call from Aamir Khan Productions and the role she was approached for, Donal Bisht said, “So, Laal Singh Chaddha ke liye hi approach hua tha, lekin mujhe bhi nahi pata tha ki kaunsi film ke liye mujhe approach kiya gaya hai. Us time main apna last TV show kar rahi thi. And after that, I didn’t want to do TV because bahut thak jaate ho aise continuous kaam karke. So I just wanted a little time for myself. Aisa tha.”

She continued, “Phir Jogi Malang ji, joh casting director hain, unke through mujhe phone aaya. Unhone bola ki Forrest Gump ki remake ban rahi hai aur please aake audition dijiye. Main audition dene gayi, lekin mujhe nahi pata tha ki Forrest Gump kya hai aur kaun bana raha hai. Us time mujhe kuch bhi aisa feel nahi hua tha. Phir mere teen–chaar auditions hue back-to-back, teen–chaar mahine ke andar. They liked me, aur unhone bola ki ye aapka final audition hai, and you are one of the final shortlisted candidates. Maine kaha okay.”

Donal Reveals The Film Was Aamir Khan’s Production

The actress continued, “Phir do mahine baad ek news break hui ki Laal Singh Chaddha, jo Forrest Gump ki remake hai, woh Aamir Khan bana rahe hain. I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ Maine phone kiya aur poocha, ‘Is it real? Have I given an audition for that? And I am shortlisted for that final list?’ Unhone kaha yes. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe this!’ Main bahut excited thi. Phir baad mein pata chala ki Kareena is doing it. Aur main honestly bahut khush thi. Maine kaha, ‘Bhagwan, jao Kareena kare.'” (laughs)

She continued, “But jiski kismat jahan likhi hoti hai, waisa hi hota hai. I was very happy. Main film dekhne bhi gayi thi. Mujhe yaad hai jo kuch scenes maine audition mein kiye the, wahi same scenes film mein the. Do-teen scenes humne perform kiye the saath mein audition ke liye. So I was very excited to see all that. But again, mujhe lagta hai har kisi ki apni kismat hoti hai. Aur jiski kismat jab jahan likhi hoti hai, woh wahin hota hai. Mujhe phone aaya aur mujhe bulaya gaya — woh mere liye hi bahut badi baat hai. Bahut badi baat hai. Aur mujhe lagta hai jo cheez aligned hoti hai, woh apne aap ho jaati hai.”

Donal Bisht Reveals Aamir Khan Was Looking For A Fresh Face

The Bigg Boss fame said, “Later, maine kuch interviews dekhe. I think Koffee With Karan mein Aamir Khan ne kaha tha ki unko us character ke liye ek fresh face chahiye tha. Agar aapne film dekhi hai, toh woh ek newcomer, struggler actor ka character tha. So I think that film demanded a fresh face. Mujhe bhi dekh ke aisa laga. But obviously Kareena Kapoor ek bahut bada naam hai. Unke hone se film kahaan se kahaan pahunch jaati hai. She is a very big, heavy name.”

She concluded, “But mujhe lagta hai ki script ko fresh face chahiye tha. Yeh main nahi keh rahi hoon, Aamir sir ne bola hai. Main nahi bol rahi hoon. Please go and watch Koffee With Karan. Mujhe bhi baad mein pata chala. Tab samajh mein aaya ki haan, woh newcomer dhoond rahe the. Aur main shortlisted panel mein se ek thi.”
