Remo Dsouza On Actors Who Are Difficult To Choreograph
In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Remo D’Souza shares whether actors who don’t know how to dance are easier or more difficult to choreograph. He says, “I think non-dancer hote hai… simple se baat hai. Mera choreography ka meaning alag hai ki main, actor ko dekhta hu aur uske baad choreograph karta hu, apne assistants ko bhi bolta hu ki, ‘Don’t think that you can do the step, think that how can the actor do the step,’ actor accha lag raha hai ki nahi, so always see the actor and choreograph according to him not you.” (I find non-dancers easier to choreograph. My approach is to observe the actor first and design steps that suit them. I tell my assistants, ‘Focus on how the actor can do the step, not how you can.’ The goal is to make the actor look good on screen.)
He continued,“Toh maine toh sabke saath kaam kiya hai, Sunny Paaji, Ajay Sir, Sanjay Dutt Sir, joh aap sabko lagta haina ki inka dance ke saath zyda lagaav nahi hain, aur sabhi ne accha kiya hai aur kabhi complaint nahi aya ki, ‘Yeh kyu de raha hai yaar,’ kyuki unke hisab se hi diya maine.” (I’ve worked with everyone—Sunny Paaji, Ajay Sir, Sanjay Dutt Sir—actors who people think aren’t too connected with dance. But they’ve all done well, and I’ve never heard complaints like, ‘Why is he giving me this step?’ because I choreographed according to their style.)
