Sai Tamhankar is a film and television actress known for her work primarily in Marathi and Hindi films. She began her career in TV in Marathi series like Tuzyavina (2003) and Ya Gojirvanya Gharat. She later appeared in the Hindi daily soap Kasturi and Anubandh (both 2007). Saie made her film debut in 2008 in Subhash Ghai’s Black & White and Aamir Khan’s Ghajini, followed by her Marathi film debut in the comedy Sanai Choughade (2008). In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sai Tamhankar opens up on Bollywood not making culture-based stories, but is optimistic for a change.

Sai Tamhankar On Bollywood Lacking Culture Heavy Films

When asked whether Bollywood films today are all about being commercially viable than telling a good story, Sai Tamhankar remarked, “Yes, a little bit.” She continued, “Main optimistic hu, main itna nahi kahungi ki there is no storytelling. But yes, culture heavy… I think it (culture) has to come back. I feel that your roots—they will always call you, they appeal to you at any given point. And I think we have such diverse, amazing, wonderful, and vast culture that we should tell culture-based stories.”

When asked if there is acceptance for actors from Marathi cinema in Bollywood, Sai said, “Of course! In fact, I was just saying this in an interview – Marathi actors or theatre actors, especially (from Marathi theatre backgrounds, are respected more. And they are pampered more. I have experienced this all along the way. Aise koi discrimination kabhi nahi hua hai. It’s a myth and I would really like to smash it once in for all – people who are good at their jobs, people who know their jobs are always welcome, accepted and pampered a lot.”

Sai’s Recent Projects

Sai Tamhankar had several upcoming projects on her schedule. She was featured in the movie Ground Zero opposite Emraan Hashmi. She played a cop in the TV series Dabba Cartel. Sai was in the film Gulkand and the series Crime Beat with Saqib Saleem and Saba Azad. Additionally, she was seen in The Secret of the Shiledars with Rajeev and performed Lavni in the Marathi film Devmanus.
