Shaan R Grover On Celebrating Diwali This Year

When asked how he celebrates Diwali and what special plans he has for this year, Shaan R Grover responded, “I am celebrating Diwali this time at home, um, lighting diyas, uh, making rangolis for the first time. And yes, it’s special and I’m doing all these things because my parents, mom and dad, are here in Mumbai for the first time for Diwali. So it’s gonna be the three of us together, first time, in Mumbai. Otherwise, it’s usually Delhi every year that I’ve done, uh, Diwali mostly all my life. So that is special. And yeah, just being with them, being with my loved ones, is what Diwali this year is gonna be all about. Except for the parties here and there. But mostly it’s the, it’s the crackers, it’s the diyas and rangolis with my mom and dad.”

Shaan’s Favourite Diwali Memory

Speaking of his favourite childhood Diwali memory, the Saiyaara fame answered, “While growing up in Delhi, Diwali is my favourite festival, by the way. Now there’s been a lot more, you know, ever since coming to Mumbai. There’s Ganapati, which has also gotten on my list. But while growing up, it was Diwali, so it’s, it’s always, uh, the bestest time for me. And, as far as the memories are concerned, just to see the newer Indian clothes, those kurtas and pyjamas to wear, that used to bring a wide smile on my face.”

He added, “The mithais, I still have the biggest sweetest tooth possible. So just to see all those mithais, uh, being brought by my mother and, and made by my family, and then most importantly, my dad bringing all the crackers. (laughs) I’ll be honest, even though I’m not so fond of crackers now, maybe a sign of maturity, and I haven’t burst crackers in the longest time. But while growing up, I was a menace, and I used to wait for the day to come desperately so that my dad could bring the whole shop home (laughs) of crackers. So those, those are some small memories that I always, um, always will remember.”

First Memory Of Celebrating Diwali In Mumbai

When asked about his first memory of celebrating Diwali in Mumbai, the actor revealed, “I don’t remember very vividly, but my very first few years when I was in college and I had just come to Mumbai, I realised that, uh, it’s not the same as Delhi. (laughs) I mean, Delhi is, is far crazier when it comes to Diwali. And, um, I would love to explain for the only reason that people should not misconstrue this, that people play a lot more cards. People are, are far more willing to go to each other’s houses and give gifts, celebrate together, call people over.”

Continuing, he said, “Just those things, just the movement, mobility is a lot more in Delhi when it’s closer to Diwali and around Diwali. Apart from that, everything is the same. Uh, people eat the same food, and want to rejoice and party, I think, even a lot more in Mumbai. So that’s what I would remember from my first memory, that I par- I started partying a lot during Diwali when I came to Mumbai. That wasn’t the case in Delhi. It was more about cards and being around friends. But the parties in Mumbai around Diwali are what I remember from my college days, and it’s continuing, strangely. (laughs)”
