EXCLUSIVE: Sourabh Raaj Jain Admits He Was Typecast While Working In TV; Says, “10 Mein Se 7 Would Be Of Similar Type”

In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actor spoke about being typecast in similar roles following the show and reflected on the kind of opportunities that came his way after playing the iconic mythological character. Sourabh Raaj Jain Says An Actor Needs To Keep Moving Onto A New Character

When asked about moving on from his iconic portrayal of Shri Krishna and whether he continues to receive the same love from the audience, Sourabh Raaj Jain said, “Maine Shri Krishna ji ka kirdar kareeban 12–13 saal pehle nibhaya tha aur tab se leke ab tak main bahut saari cheezein aur bhi kar chuka hoon. What happens is ki agar koi aapka koi aisa koi bhi kirdar, mere liye Shri Krishna ji ka kirdar hai, but I think ki ek cheez aisi ho jaati hai.”

The actor continued, “Jaise Sholay mein jinhone Gabbar Singh ka role play kiya tha, unko baar-baar bole toh matlab ek dhyaan jaata hai jab hum unke baare mein baat karte hain, toh unhone Gabbar Singh play kiya tha. Lekin unhone aur kitne behtareen characters play kiye the. There were so many others, and people loved him in those, too. So it is not like that. I think aisa nahi hai ki maine woh character chhoda aur ab main isme aaya hoon. It’s in between a lot of things happening. So different projects, different characters, and we keep moving on.”

Sourabh Raaj Jain Opens Up On Being Typecast In Certain Roles

Speaking on being boxed into a certain character, Sourabh said, “TV mein, yes, maine bahut tarah-tarah ke roles kiye hain. Kaafi different roles kiye hain. Jahan tak typecast ki baat hai, very honestly, there was a point when I used to think a lot about it, kyunki mujhe baar-baar usi tarah ke roles offer ho rahe the. Aisa nahi tha ki aur roles nahi aa rahe, lekin haan, 10 mein se agar main bolun toh 7 would be of the similar type. And then obviously proportionality aisi ho jaati hai ki joh zyada hote hain woh zyada hote hain aur wo kam hote hain.”

He added, ” Lekin, I think as life goes on, I have to do various things all the way. Wo 12–13 saal pehle maine kirdar play kiya tha. Ab main jaake theatre mein phir se wo kirdar play kar raha hoon. Lekin us time aur aaj ke time ke beech mein bahut lamba faasla hai jismein maine bahut saari cheezein kari hain. So right now, I don’t think much about it.”
