Tanishk Bagchi Supports AI Generation In Music

Speaking about living in the AI Generation for musicians in the industry, Tanishk Bagchi said, “It’s a really beautiful time to create music right now, because AI gives you that edge, that liberty to experiment and explore new possibilities in music. I use AI in a very different way. For example, I had this idea in mind that I wanted to create a symphony. I needed voices, so I used AI to generate symphonic vocal textures, and then layered Indian classical elements over them. Think about it, combining opera with Indian classical music. You normally wouldn’t even imagine something like that. But because of AI, I can imagine it. These tools are made to enhance your creativity and expand your understanding of what music can be.”

Continuing, he added, “When I started producing music, all I had was a keyboard. It had maybe 3–4 tracks — one would carry the kick, one the snare, another the bass. That was it. Now, we have sessions with thousands of tracks. The level of creative liberty today is massive. Back then, we didn’t even dream of this kind of freedom. Of course, it all depends on how you use it. Education and intent matter. If AI is used for the wrong reasons, like copying, plagiarism, or ripping off someone’s work, I don’t support that at all. That’s like the old days of piracy, and I stood against it then, too.”

Adding further, Bagchi said, “But I do believe in AI for the possibilities it opens. Suppose I’m working on a song and I want to understand the vocal range of someone like Shreya Ghoshal. Now, Shreya is a very good friend of mine, and I wouldn’t want to disturb her while composing. So, I might use AI to model a range similar to hers, just to get an idea, how high or low the vocal can go. Once I’ve composed it, and she actually sings it, it brings the song to life. But I already know by then that it’s going to suit her voice perfectly.”
