Actor Vardhaan Puri, who impressed audiences with Yeh Saali Aashiqui and Bloody Ishq, recently discovered that both his films are among the 10 most pirated movies online. While the actor admits it’s “flattering to know people are watching and loving your films,” he calls it “heartbreaking to know that piracy exists at such a massive level.”
Vardhaan Puri Calls It “Heartbreaking That Piracy Exists”
Speaking about the alarming scale of the problem, Vardhaan shared with Bollywood Bubble, “As per data, the Indian film industry loses nearly Rs 24,000 crore every year to piracy. Rs 14,000 crore comes from theatrical films and Rs 10,000 crore from OTT and streaming content. That’s devastating, especially for producers who invest their hard-earned money into making films.”
The actor expressed how piracy directly impacts the creative chain, from writers and technicians to studios and directors and ultimately affects viewers too. “Because if producers do not recover their investments, they hesitate to make more content. So indirectly, we all lose, the audiences, cinephiles, and storytellers,” he said, urging people to “pay for entertainment and stop piracy.”
When asked about audiences who find OTT or theatre tickets expensive, Vardhaan acknowledged their concern but added, “We’re constantly in touch with the authorities to reduce taxes, but until then, we need to honor content by paying for it legally.”
Before signing off, the actor hinted at something exciting on the horizon in regards to Yeh Saali Aashiqui sequel,“ It’s too early to talk, but yes, something is in development and I promise it’s going to surprise everyone.”
On the work front, Vardhaan was last seen in Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story, starring him and and Kaveri Kapur in lead roles. The romantic comedy film directed by Kunal Kohli. It premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 11 February 2025. He will reportedly be seen in Nautanki.
