Vartika Singh Shed Light On Yami Gautam’s Advice To Her

Vartika Singh is currently enjoying the praise coming her way for her impactful performance in Haq, where she stars alongside Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam. The film has opened new doors for the former Miss India, and she recently reflected on her journey, preparation, and experience working with two established actors in Bollywood.

Speaking about her co-stars, Vartika said, “There were many. They’re both extremely instinctive actors, so your only option is to be present. With Emraan, I noticed how he never forces a moment; he just arrives in it. That teaches you stillness. With Yami, her clarity is incredible. She knows exactly what she wants to say in a scene emotionally. There was a day when I was overthinking a shot, and she just told me, ‘trust your first feeling.’ That helped a lot. Working with them makes you raise your own bar without anyone saying anything.”

When asked about preparing for such an intense and layered role, she shared that she approached it with sincerity rather than pressure. She said, “Honestly, I didn’t come in thinking ‘this is my first film.’ I came in thinking, ‘this is Saira’s life, and I need to honour it.’ She’s gentle on the surface but she carries so much quietly, love, duty, conflict, sacrifice… all those things women are expected to just ‘handle.’ I spent time understanding her silences more than her dialogues. I think mentally I had to let go of my own personality and sit with her softness.”

Reflecting further, she added, “Emotionally, it was actually tougher because she reminds you of women you’ve grown up around, the ones who love deeply but rarely get to choose for themselves. So the prep was more internal… slowing down, listening, observing, and allowing her to settle into me.”
