Life journey of Anu Aggarwal – The Girl who came back from the dead

Anu Aggarwal was born on 11 January 1969 in New Delhi, and was raised in Chennai. She was a gold medalist in sociology from Delhi University.

After a brief stint in modelling, and VJing, she made her Bollywood debut with the musical blockbuster Aashiqui opposite Rahul Roy, following which she was much in demand. Aashiqui was the biggest turning point of her life.

In 1999, when she was returning from a party, she had a near fatal accident in Mumbai and was treated at Breach Candy Hospital, to recuperate after a 29-day coma.

Anu didn't remember what exactly happened that night, she also lost her memory after this incident. After a 29-day coma she woke up half paralised. The accident was so severe that each n every limb and a joint of her body was broken. She had lost almost everything.

After 6 years of Bollywood fame and after doing 10 movies Anu vanished.

The accident was so severe that a part of her body including a portion of her face was paralysed and twisted to one side and her beautiful face turned ugly. After 3 years of struggle she tried a lot to walk and emerged as a winner. All the doctors were shocked to see her trying to walk because her feet was not functioning. “So, if I closed my eyes there was no thumb. I had no first finger. No second finger. No third finger. No fourth finger. No tiny smallest finger. And I had no nails. I did not have a palm. I did not feel the skin on top of my palm. I had no skin even above the palm. My wrist was decapitated. I had no hand and no lower arm. I had no elbow. I had no upper arm,” she said.

During her recovery period she experienced a lot of positive energy that helped her to recuperate much faster than predicted by the doctors. Later she started travelling overseas. After some years she came back to Mumbai filled with enthusiasm and a willpower to take up new projects.

Today Anu is single and she practices yoga at the Bihar school of yoga in Munger, Bihar. She is also an amateur power-lifter and after her accident she has competed in many power-lifting competitions.

In an interview, Anu said, "I nearly died that night. The doctors at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai still think it’s a miracle I am alive. Alive to tell you about the love I discovered through a ruptured body, a brain bleed, and several incisions of needles and sutures made with surgical thread tied tight..."

Anu Agarwal unveiled her autobiography “Anusual- Memoir of a Girl who Came Back from the Dead”. “Finally guys, Hooray! A ‘Never-say-die-story’.
