Jimmy Shergill

Actor Jimmy Sheirgill has been around in the industry for a while now but he is always perceived as the man who never gets the girl in the movies. Now, the actor seems to have been tired of the joke. He said, “Out of 100 films, if in four I didn’t get the girl, it’s barely a ratio to conclude anything. It’s not a big deal. It was a joke we laughed along with and it’s time it needs to get over.”

It all started with the movie ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ where he gets friendzoned by Preity Zinta’s character and lets his best friend Uday Chopra walk away with the girl, a night before the wedding. This was followed in movies like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu: Returns’ and the very recent ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’. Here’s what he said, “Sometimes you are working on a few films together for a year or two and they all get completed around the same time. And then suddenly one particular year, they start releasing one by one. That’s exactly happening with me, so it’s fair for people to think that way. When you are doing younger roles, you want to do matured ones and look different. I’ve been through that phase wherein I was doing serious projects and then there was an urge to get back to that young image. As an actor, I also look for some kind of excitement.”

The actor said that he always looked at reinventing himself with the movies. Says Sheirgill, “After a few weeks of Mohabbatein, my chocolate boy image was all over the town. I got so sick of it and desperately wanted to break away. Hence, films such as Haasil, Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar, Bas Ek Pal, Charas, Yahan, Munnabhai etc came up, which helped set me apart. Finally audience realised I can do intense and angry young man kind of roles too.”
