Sonam Kapoor on venturing out into regional and world cinema

Actress Sonam Kapoor recently went for the special screening of the Punjabi movie ‘Chauthi Koot’, and felt very happy and proud on having watched the same. The actress who received much appreciation for reprising the role of late flight attendant Neerja Bhanot in the movie ‘Neerja’, shared her desire of working not only in regional but also international languages, if the script and the character is good enough.

On Monday, after the screening ended, Sonam was asked if she would love to do a Punjabi film, to which she replied, “I don’t know the language; I do understand it. I understand Sindhi and Hindi more, but why not? I don’t think, as an actor, a language should curb your enthusiasm.”

“If I like the story and if it is Punjabi, Chinese, Hindi, Marathi, Russian, French or any language, I will do it if I like the character,” added the actress.

While Sonam’s contemporaries Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are ready with their Hollywood debuts to release next year in 2017, there have been very few instances of any Bollywood star venturing out into projects other than English. More recently, actors Sonu Sood and Amyra Dastur have worked with superstar Jackie Chan in the trilingual English, Hindi and Mandarin film ‘Kung Fu Yoga’.

We certainly hope that this fashionista would soon feature into a different language film, proving her acting skills there also with equal perfection.

On the professional front, Sonam Kapoor is now busy preparing for her next film ‘Veere Di Wedding’ where she shares screen space with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania.
