Adolescence Actor Owen Cooper Becomes Youngest Emmy Winner; Reflects, “Was Nothing 3 Years Ago”

Adolescence star Owen Cooper, who is just 15 years old, made history by winning the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series award at the Emmys 2025. He is the youngest actor to receive this accolade in this category. The series Adolescence, which premiered earlier this year on Netflix, dominated the Emmy Awards 2025, securing six awards in total. Among them, Owen Cooper’s win stood out as a highlight.

Owen Cooper Recalls Acting Journey

Reflecting on his achievement, Owen, at only 15, shared during his acceptance speech, “I was nothing about three years ago, I am here now.” He expressed his amazement, saying, “Standing up here is just wow, it is so surreal. Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple of years back, I didn’t expect to be even in the United States.”

He also added, “Tonight proves that if you listen, if you focus, if you step out of the comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing about three years ago; I am here now. A big thanks to my parents, my mom, my dad, my family,” and extended his gratitude to the entire series team and Netflix.

About Adolescence

At the time of filming Adolescence, Owen was only 14, yet his performance captured widespread acclaim. The series consisted of four episodes, each shot in a single take without any cuts. Although it is a British production, it received an enthusiastic response worldwide, including in India. Many Indian filmmakers praised the innovative one-take approach used in the series.

In addition to Owen’s award, Adolescence garnered several other honours. It includes Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Best Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for Stephen Graham, Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for Erin Doherty, and awards for Best Writing and Best Director (Philip Barantini).
