This amendment had allowed BTS members to postpone their military enlistment until the age of 30. They had received the ‘Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit in 2018. Therefore BTS can promote as a whole group till December 2022. That is when the oldest member Jin will turn 30.

However, On November 25, according to a military reporter for Asia E, the Korean National Assembly had gathered to discuss a revision on the Military Service Act. It was discussed as to whether or not,  popular artists would be allowed to replace military service with volunteer work. But seems that the involved councils are still reluctant to expand exemptions.

The representative from the ministry of national defence stated that a more inclusive definition of the term of art and sports personnel requires further review. As a result, the Korean national assembly failed to reach a consensus on expanding the military exemption act to include popular cultural artists.

However, not all hope for an exemption is lost. The National Defense Commission plans to continue discussions by preparing to collect public opinion in the future.
