The 2025 Met Gala is set to kickstart at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan in under an hour and NYC is busy with all the celebs getting their look in place. While the fashion world gets ready to see how global celebrities bring this year’s theme – Tailored for You centred around the highly anticipated exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, to live, do you know there are a few celebs that you are 100% sure not to see slay the floral carpet?
For those who do not know, the guest list of the event is a task that Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour’s takes very seriously. Each person on the perfectly curated guestlist to the Met Gala is handpicked by her. While Anna (as per The Independent) has only outlawed one person from the gala, a few celebrities are either rumoured to be fired from the star-studded night or have sworn to never return to the gala.
From current President of the United States Donald Trump and certain members of his family to Riverdale’s Betty Cooper aka Lili Reinhart, scroll below to know which celebs are banned from this year’s Met Gala and why.
Celebs Banned From The Met Gala
Donald Trump
In 2017, while on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Anna Wintour revealed that Donald Trump is one person she would never invite back to the event. Prior to this, Trump and his wife Melania were regulars at the event,. In fact, POTUS has proposed to the First Lady of the United Stated at this very event.
Ivanka Trump
Just like Donald Trump, Ivanka too was a regular at the Met Gala events; however, she has been MIA from the charity dinner since 2016. While Ivanka being banned from the event was never officially confirmed, it’s been speculated that the entire Trump family has been cut off the well curated guest list.
Lili Reinhart
The Riverdale – who was a regular at the Met Gala until 2022, has been missing from the biggest fashion event of the year ever since she publicly criticising Kim Kardashian’s extreme dieting to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s gown. During an an interview with W magazine, Reinhart said, “I don’t think I’ll be invited back, I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress.”
Amy Schumer
During an interview with Howard Stern in 2016, Amy criticised the Met saying, “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce…We’re dressed up like a bunch of fucking assholes; I don’t like it. I have no interest in fashion…I don’t care.” While this statement didn’t get her banned permanently (as far as reports go), the actress has made it clear she’s not a huge fan of the event.
Zayn Malik
Zayn – who attended the 2016 Met Gala with his then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, has made it clear that he had no interest to attend the charity gala ever again. In 2018 he told GQ, “Now it’s not something I would go to. I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet…to do the self-indulgent ‘look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”
