Ek Chatur Naar Review
Marketed as a crime thriller, Ek Chatur Naar follows the lives of Mamta Mishra (Divya Khossla Kumar) – a simply but clever woman from the slums and white-collar criminal Abhishek Verma (Neil Nitin Mukesh). The film kicks off with us getting a glimpse into the lives of the lead characters.
Mamta is a single mother who lives in home by the gutter with her 5-year-old son and mother-in-law (Chhaya Kadam) who’s always drinking. She does a number of jobs including working in the CCTV room of a Metro station and as a waitress at parties. The trio live in darkness as much as possible to keep their expenses low and even hide from their landlord-cum-money leader. Alongside introducing Abhishek as a sly scammer who helps politicians pocket money meant for the betterment of the poor, we also meet his wife and mother who are always a each other’s throat.
From here the story begins. Abhishek – who is late for a meeting with a politician (Zakir Hussain), dumps his car and takes the metro after meeting with an accident. While in his rush to make it to the meeting, he bumps into someone and loses his mobile phone, leading to utmost chaos. What follows is several plot that ultimately end in an unexpected twist that slightly helps salvage the film. Scroll below to read our honest review of Ek Chatur Naar.
What Works
Nothing expect the absence of unnecessary songs
What Doesn’t Work
The logic-less narrative that’s filled with major loop holes. Aside from the story, the actors also fail to leave an impression with their performances.
Star Cast
Divya Khossla fails to shine as Mamta. Despite her character being the hero of the film, her acting seems over the top and her accent is sure to tick everyone off. Neil Nitin Mukesh too disappoints and the main reason for it the weakly written character arc.
Conclusion
Skip this film. Do not waste even Rs 100 on watching it in theatres, you can invested 1 hour into watching it when it premieres on Netflix in a couple of weeks ( you will skip ahead hence the shorter runtime).
