One Two Cha Cha Chaa Review
In a time when our screens are dominated with chest-thumping action heroes, dark thrillers, adult comedies, cringe dramas, directors Abhishek Raj & Rajneesh Thakur bring you a comedy that’s sheet madness and full of unapologetic and unadulterated fun.
Set in Motihari, Bihar, One Two Cha Cha Chaa begins during the pre-wedding of Sanju (Lalit Prabhakar). While family members fawn over the groom-to-be during his haldi ceremony, we are introduced to his bachelor, bipolar uncle/chacha ji, Ved Prakash Jaiswal (Ashutosh Rana). From here the story kicks off in a direction that will leave you laughing and feeling nostalgic given how clean, simple and impactful the narrative it is.
During the haldi ceremony, Chachaji declared he wants to and needs to get married before the nephew! This declaration – and a little twist, leads to an unusual road trip to a mental health facility in Ranchi that soon snowballs into a full-blown circus. From suspended narcotics officers, a dancer named Shoma, an escaped criminal named Bhura Singh, and an overly enthusiastic police officer, the stakes are high. Scroll to read our One Two Cha Cha Chaa review and know if you should watch it in cinemas this weekend.
What Works
While Ashutosh Rana has a special place in our hearts for the numerous serious roles he’s essayed to date, his performance as the bipolar, impatient-to-get married Chacha ji is on a whole other level. Pair this impeccable performance will a well written script and you have something that should 100% be watch (and re-watched).
Technical Analysis
Story
Simple is best is the policy of the writer(s), and it works. The plot of One Two Cha Cha Chaa is not complex. It’s skilful writing and flow takes a simple heist-gone-wrong idea and elevates it into something filled absurd characters and situations that will keep you laughing. From dialogues to actions, everything is kept raw, and reminds us of classics like Hera Pheri and Dhamaal.
Direction
Directors Abhishek Raj and Rajneesh Thakur have done a commendable job in bringing this refreshing story to life. They’ve made sure to not appear preachy but still manage to convey some important messages nicely. The pace too is well-maintained and there’s no dull moment in the entire 2-hour, 40-minute runtime
Music
The background music adds a perfect layer of intrigue to the narrative. The film’s musical elements are beautifully handled and aid in keeping its tone peppy and comic, but still intense.
Star Cast
Ashutosh Rana is the star and no one can convince me otherwise. His performance as the bipolar, eccentric uncle with such childlike innocence is spot-on. His performance is so pure that it manages to tug at one’s soul despite being its comic elements.
Lalit Prabhakar, Anant Vijay Joshi, and Harsh Mayar deliver a performance that resonates with the Dhamaal-Golmaal energy. Nyrraa M Banerji as Shoma 440 bring in some glamour. Abhimanyu Singh also delivers.
Conclusion
If you want to have an hearty laugh, book your tickets for One Two Cha Cha Chaa ASAP . While the film does talk about mental health, it never gets preachy and always manages to make you smile.
