Saare Jahan Se Accha Review

Netflix’s Saare Jahan Se Accha has released and it’s a spy drama unlike anything we’ve seen before . Not one of the usual spy thriller, this Pratik Gandhi-led series is a well-researched, mature and sharp espionage story that humanizes all characters, irrespective if they are Indian or Pakistani officers. The series follows the life and adventures of Vishnu Shankar (Pratik) – an Indian intelligence spy, who gets intel that Pakistan is working on a nuclear weapon post the demise of Dr Homi Bhabha. After gathering more data, he’s tasked with going undercover to Islamabad as a diplomat to uncover the truth and foil the plan before it’s too late.

What follows is a tense, intricate web of deceit as loyalties shifts and high-stakes espionage questions the very trust you have in those closest to you. Will loyalty and determination to protect the country outweigh personal relationships? What are the sacrifices made in order to complete the mission? To know what transpires during the secret meetings in dingy rooms to explosive interaction, one need to watch Saare Jahan Se Accha; and here’s our review of it.

What Works

It may be India vs Pakistan, but it not the normal good vs bad narratives we are used to. There are no caricatured villains here of an Indian spy taking down the corrupt Pakistanis with his wits – its about people fighting for their countries, their beliefs and even their own survival, while risking all that they have.

What Doesn’t Work

The pace is uneven. While some subplots resolves within a blink of the eye, others take forever to unfold. At times, the narrative – owing to its streamlined storytelling, feel unrealistic and make the characters seem 2-dimentional.
