Dangal and Sultan collection

2016 was a year of surprises. While there were films that surprisingly became disasters, there were also films that proved to be sleeper hit at the box office. But, there are only two films that have reached the blockbuster and the all-time blockbuster level. Well, we are talking about Salman Khan-starrer ‘Sultan’ and Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’.

‘Dangal’ in 17 days has collected Rs 333.63 crore, and it is expected the film will collect more and will break the record of be the highest grossing Hindi film. The film is surely an all-time blockbuster. On the other hand, the lifetime collection of the Salman Khan-starrer was Rs 300 crore. It’s a blockbuster.

However, apart from these two films, there are no movies that have even reached near to the collection the Aamir and Salman-starrer.

After these blockbuster and all-time blockbuster films of the Khans, it’s Akshay Kumar’s two films ‘Airlift’ and ‘Rustom’ that are super hit at the box office. While the former had collected Rs 123.46, the latter had collected Rs 124.45 crore.

The list of hit movies of 2016 include ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ (119. 09 crore), ‘Housefull 3’ (108.07 crore), ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (106.48 crore), ‘Baaghi’ (76.06 crore), ‘Kapoor & Sons’ (69.37 crore), ‘Neerja’ (71.76 crore), and ‘Pink’ (65.62 crore).

When it comes to semi hit, there are two films in the list, Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Dear Zindagi’ (66.33 crore) and Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor-starrer ‘Ki & Ka’ (51.68 crore).

While ‘Dishoom’ (67.80 crore), ‘Udta Punjab’ (60.04 crore), and ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’ (28.19 crore) fall under the average grossers category, ‘Shivaay’ (84.83 crore), ‘Befikre’ (60.07 crore), ‘Wazir’ (40.30 crore), and ‘Motu Patlu – King Of Kings’ (4.44 crore) were below average at the box office.

We hope that 2017 has more blockbusters and super hits.
