raabta movie

Yes, the makers of ‘Raabta’ have created a new language for the movie. If you’ve seen the trailer, then you would have noticed two different eras, the current era and the olden times, where the previous birth of Sushant and Kriti is shown. So, according to Mid-Day, for that time period, the makers contemplated on forming a different and unheard of language. This reminds us of ‘Baahubali’ when the makers had created a new language called as Kiliki for Kalakeya tribe. Similarly, the writers of ‘Raabta’ have curated a new language, which is a mix of Khari boli, Awadhi and Brij.

Garima, of writers Siddharth-Garima duo, said to Mid-Day, “We wanted to give it an ancient touch. The script will be Devanagari. We researched on local dialects from Central India. No amount of look will sound convincing if the characters from 3000 years ago speak colloquial language. We went through Kabir’s dohas, which helped a lot. Rajkummar Rao plays a king in the film and makes a massive prophecy. That particular line had to be understandable and yet, archaic. In this language, there are hints of Urdu and Hindustani too. We didn’t name it anything but it was a delight doing this.”

She further added, “Since we didn’t have to focus so much on written word, we didn’t really have to see the language in writing. It will be calligraphic version of Devanagari.” When asked about subtitles for the portions, she said, “We might. We obviously don’t expect the audience to understand everything. When we spoke to Dinesh about this, he suggested we have subtitles.”

‘Raabta’ stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon in lead roles and Rajkummar Rao and Jim Sarbh in important roles. The movie is directed by Dinesh Vijan and will be releasing on June 9, 2017.
