10 Bollywood celebrities who turned down brand endorsements when it conflicted with their principles
Aamir Khan has made it clear that he would do endorsements only related to social causes and is not interested in doing any ad films which are not socially relevant.
Abhishek Bachchan recently turned down an endorsement deal for an alcohol brand as he does want to give out a wrong message to the youth. In an interview Abhishek was cited saying “I personally don’t believe that any revenue is good revenue. There has to be an endorser-brand fit that raises the product’s equity. I need to personally believe in the brand before taking it up. I wouldn’t endorse a product I don’t use.”
Amitabh Bachchan was once the famous brand ambassador for Cola for a period of 8 years. Although, when Big B was asked a genuine question by a small school that why did he endorse such a brand which is also known as slow poison. Since then Amitabh Bachchan has always given double thought before signing an endorsement deal.
Anushka Sharma is a brand ambassador of the leading shampoo brand Pantene and is happy to be associated with the hair care product owned by FMCG major Procter & Gamble. Anushka Sharma in an interview stated in an interview “I would not endorse products that propagate racist and sexiest (beliefs)….and propagate social taboo. I don’t want to endorse products that propagate fair skin and all. I will not propagate anything that says this is right or wrong,”.
Ranbir Kapoor also turned down an offer for a fairness cream ad film as he thinks this would just add onto the racism factor taking rounds in the country and he does not want to be a part of promoting racism and is completely against it.
Emraan Hashmi might be the bad guy and notorious in his movies but does not want to send out a wrong message by endorsing alcohol brands.
John Abraham has done several brand endorsements but has put his foot down and decided not to promote any tobacco or alcohol related products.
Kangana Ranaut has always been a person who voices her opinions and stands up for it. Recently she turned down an offer for a fairness cream ad film as she does not think it is ethical and she was cited saying "Ever since I was a kid, I have never understood the concept of fairness. Especially, in such a case, as a celebrity, what kind of an example would I be setting for younger people? I have no regrets about turning this offer down. As a public figure, I have responsibilities."!
Kareena Kapoor is a pure Vegetarian and was also voted by PETA as the sexiest vegetarian in 2008. So it came as no surprise when the gorgeous Bebo turned down the offer for a chicken brand.
Randeep Hooda also turned down an offer for fairness cream ad film and had once mentioned that "It's a colonial hangover to be fair. India, as a country, has an obsession with fairness, whereas the entire world is lying under the sun and getting a tan. I think men should be tall, dark and handsome and not tall, fair and handsome."
